Remote Browser sessions are delivered using Amazon WorkSpaces Applications, the service previously called Amazon AppStream 2.0. Amazon provides the secure streaming connection while SafeJAM prepares and launches the remote browser inside the session.

In normal operation, a session should launch within one minute. It can take longer when new fleet capacity must start, when demand is high, or when network conditions delay the connection. A launch delay does not necessarily mean that the session has failed.

Before launching

From your Remote Browser profile:

  1. Select the remote browser product and location, if prompted.
  2. For an on-demand purchase, select Request Capacity when displayed and wait for Capacity Available.
  3. Choose whether to launch in your web browser or, when available to your subscription, the Amazon WorkSpaces Applications client.
  4. Select Connect Now once. Keep the profile page open while the connection is prepared.

The launch button may display Preparing… or Capacity Pending. This is expected while Remote Browser waits for an instance. For more information, see Understanding Remote Browser session capacity.

First launch and Amazon cookies

The first time you launch a session, Amazon WorkSpaces Applications may ask you to accept or decline Amazon cookies. This prompt belongs to the Amazon streaming service and is separate from the SafeJAM cookie controls.

Review the prompt and select Accept or Decline according to your preference. Complete the prompt before expecting the streaming session to continue loading. You may be asked again if you clear browser storage, use a private-browsing window, or launch from a different browser or device.

Launching in your web browser

An in-browser session opens the Amazon WorkSpaces Applications streaming page in a new browser tab or window.

During launch you may see:

  • A new tab that takes several seconds to connect.
  • An Amazon cookie choice on first use.
  • A black streaming screen after the connection opens.
  • The Remote Browser application appearing several seconds after the black screen.

A short black screen is expected while the remote desktop finishes starting and the browser application opens. Keep the session tab open and wait for the Remote Browser window to appear.

If no new tab opens, check whether your browser blocked a pop-up from SafeJAM. Allow pop-ups for the site and select Connect Now again. Avoid repeatedly selecting the button while a launch is already being prepared.

Launching in the WorkSpaces Applications client

Subscribers can choose the Amazon WorkSpaces Applications client when it is installed on their local device. Selecting Connect Now hands the secure session link from the profile page to the client application.

The client may open behind the Remote Browser profile window. If the profile appears unchanged after launch:

  1. Press Alt+Tab on Windows to switch to the WorkSpaces Applications client, or select its icon from the taskbar.
  2. Look for an Amazon WorkSpaces Applications window asking for confirmation or displaying the connecting session.
  3. Complete any first-launch cookie prompt and allow the session time to load.

Do not assume the launch failed solely because the client did not appear in front of the browser. Check the taskbar and other open windows first.

If the client does not open at all, confirm that it is installed and that your device allows links beginning with amazonappstream: to open in WorkSpaces Applications. Your browser or operating system may ask for permission to open the external application.

How launch time affects your minutes

Waiting for capacity before an Amazon session starts does not use your Remote Browser session minutes. SafeJAM bases session timing on the start time reported for the actual WorkSpaces Applications session, rather than the time when you first select Request Capacity or Connect Now.

For on-demand sessions, SafeJAM also includes a two-minute launch allowance in the calculated session end time to compensate for the short period in which the streaming session and remote application finish opening. A brief connecting or black-screen stage therefore does not reduce the purchased browsing time.

For subscriptions, usage is associated with the active streaming session, not with time spent waiting for fleet capacity on the profile page.

Once the streaming session is active, leaving it open may use session time even if the Remote Browser window is not currently in focus. End the session when you have finished using it.

Launch Tips

  1. Allow pop-ups/Notifications and keep the new session tab open.
  2. If a black screen is displayed, wait several more seconds for the Remote Browser application to appear.
  3. Check that your internet connection remains stable and avoid switching networks during launch.

When to contact support

Contact SafeJAM Support only if the session completely fails to launch with an error. A pending capacity wait, a brief black screen, or a WorkSpaces Applications client window opening behind your browser window is not a failed launch.

Include the approximate launch time, selected location, launch method, local operating system, browser version, and any error message. State whether a new browser tab or WorkSpaces Applications client window opened. Do not send passwords or session contents.
